Triple Pillars

Good morning!

We have now a short respite from the long spell of dry hot weather. It became cool at night and early in the morning. Especially when we sit in zazen, we can enjoy rest and renewal of our life from the turmoil and troubles in the wider world.

All Buddhists appreciate and advance the triple treasures of buddha, dharma, and sangha (awakened, awakened truth, and awakened community). These are paralleled here in a practical way in the triple pillars of the awakened way, global ethic, and voluntary simplicity.

The Buddha saw the triple sufferings (individual: birth, aging, sickness, death; social: parting with beloved ones, meeting with hateful ones; inability to attain desired things and avoid detested things; and ecological: disasters, etc.) and solved them by the practice of zen (from jhâna, dhyâna, chan), stilling the source of suffering.

He saw also the triple tragedies (discrimination, exploitation, and extermination in civilization: class, conflict, and carnage in and among city states and living beings and the life system) and succeeded in solving them and establishing the triple treasures beyond civilization (city and nation states).

The awakened way is a complete paradigm shift from civilization (strife for and slavery in matter and power) to culture (striving for and sharing mind and life) in cultivation in holy (ariya, ârya, hagia: wholly wholesome) truth, goodness, beauty, harmony, and happiness.

Zazen is the practical way to achieve the triple treasures and the triple pillars, becoming awakened (buddha) to the dharma (norm/law) in the dharma (form/phenomena) world, thus witnessing awakening, observing the law in the community of phenomena in truth, peace, and harmony.

Zazen stops karma-machines in which all living beings are involved, seeing and settling in anuttara samyak sambodhi (unsurpassed right awakening) and nirvâna (unconditioned peace), both sides of the awakened way, practically observing the truth of the universal/global system and global ethic.

Zazen includes the triple learning of morality, concentration, and prognosis, practically observing and realizing the global ethic (no killing/stealing/lying, equal partnership between men and women), peace conditioned by nothing, and perfect in the dharma (truth) realm beyond all karmas.

Zazen enables anyone to stop and see the triple karmas (physical, verbal, and mental actions/functions) and the triple poisons (delusion, craving, and anger), settling in the triple transcendence (unsurpassed awakening, unconditioned peace, and unparalleled prognosis) and the triple treasures.

We are at the utmost urgency in system shift from sticking to, struggling for, and suffering in limited matter and power to saving, sharing, and serving limitless mind and life. We must not only know this, but act practically with the triple pillars for systemic, sustainable, safe, simple life, saving all.
