Symbolism of Self, Society, and Species

Good morning!

Now we see the beautiful clear crescent moon in the darker sky and feel crisp cool air of the approaching winter.

We hear of the fifty year record flooding in Thailand with 356 dead and 2,500,000 evacuees, and the earthquake in Turkey with casualties rising. Seismologists tell us we are entering an active seismic period.

We experience more severe abnormal climatic phenomena due to global warming. These are empirically and scientifically attested with fair and far-reaching research.

Playing ostrich will lead to runaway catastrophe. Francis Bacon pointed out the four idola of cave, marketplace, theater, and species.

These can be renamed self, society, status, and species. In fact, all of these can be redefined as symbolism – the singling-out and substantiation of interdependent and impermanent phenomena.

Sitting, stilling karmas, and seeing reality directly frees us from this fiction fallacy. We must be awakened from our deep-seated delusion, desire, and divisiveness.
