Normal or Norm

Good morning!

Now we have a chilly morning passing away from the equinox. When we sit, however, still and serene, we are in equanimity, in peace, truth, and harmonious state – in supramundane realm.

When we are engaged in our business as usual, we are in strife, stress, and suffering – in the mundane realm. This becomes our normal state and even the standard. We think it is safe and see no danger.

The survey of the refugees from the Japan tsunami shows they had “normalcy bias” that they are in a normal state. Those who were near the seashore or at high points could see the wall of wave coming.

Those in the weakest part or way high point could see the mountain of misfortune pressing forward upon them. They took refuge to the high points to avoid the tsunami and its torrents.

Only when we sit and stop our karmas – settling into peace and prognosis – can we see the true refuges in the awakened ones, awakened dharma (form/norm), and harmonious sangha (community).
