Cultivation, Culture, Civilization

Good evening!

The temperature went up to 99 degrees during the heat wave, and some plants are in the
critical state of life or death. If we give water to them, they can survive; if not, they
cannot. When we water plants, they bloom. When we weed, we find flowers. We
find beauty, goodness, and truth here and now.

Culture is for life and the mind. The Buddha said, “We cannot reach the limit of the
world.” Only by our practice, can we reach it and go beyond it. We can reach holiness
(wholesome whole), unconditioned peace and unsurpassed awakening, and transcend
birth and death. This is religion.

Civilization is pursuing matter and power, only visible things. If one’s pursuit is only limited to this, one cannot see beauty, truth, goodness, much less holiness. Only when we cultivate and
reach the limit of the world and transcend it, can we work with wisdom and
compassion, truth and peace, liberation and love.
