Kougetsu (耕月:Cultivating the Moon)

We can now see the full moon high in the sky, clear and cool. Usually our mind moons are clouded with many sorts of senses and sufferings. When, however, we sit solid and serene, we become pure and perfect beyond our karmic conventional realms.

All have their own mind moons (??). Cultivation of the moon (??) is the crucial crux, whether it is the bright full moon or the dark partial moon. If we cultivate the mind moon, we can grow and reap a great harvest and happiness in the fully functioning field (??).

We recite the verse of the robe every morning, wearing the Buddha’s robes (kesa or rakusu): “Great is the robe of liberation, markless garb of merit making. Wearing the Tathagata’s teaching, we vow to save all beings.” If we vow this, we are saved from the small self.
