Still Serene Satisfaction

Good morning!

After a while of sitting, we witness the clear, calm state of the mind and the world; and then we are able to see the merit of sitting and stopping karma. Otherwise, we just go on according to the dictates of our karma – finding it difficult to come and sit, and experience the still, serene satisfaction.

Coming here I encountered repaving work along Ladue Road, so I turned onto Spoede. On the way back I forgot to turn onto Conway and went on Lindbergh smoothly up to the grooved road. Similarly, only when we meet disaster, death, etc., do we realize that we need to change course.

The same things happen with our minds, bodies, societies, etc. That’s why we just continue our old habits – even though we know about global warming, mass extinction, etc. We know intellectually, but our emotions, bodies, institutions, etc., continue on with the same old habits.

That’s why we need to stop our old habits and attain emancipation, freedom, and liberation from them. Through constant, continuous cultivation – praxis – we find holy truth, peace, goodness, beauty – genuinely free and fully functioning.
