Change at Chance

Good morning!

We have threatening clouds, but do not know whether they are clearing up or raining down.

The prime minister of Japan announced his request to stop all nuclear reactors at Hamaoka plant, which is close to Tokyo and threatened by earthquakes, with an 87% chance of experiencing one, within 30 years.

This is a good piece of news amidst all of the current bad news about the nuclear disaster. “Change at chance” (rinki ouhen: ????) is good to turn a bad situation into a good one.

The Buddha said, “When we have roofs, we have leaks.” When we have nukes, we have leaks. Self, society, states, and civilization leak and leave havoc.

He recommended that we understand and act from the ultimate truth (orient our minds from the source: yoni-so manasi-kara). This is crucial in solving our intertwined global problems.

We have population explosion (ten billion by 2100), resource depletion, pollution, global warming, mass extinction, etc. “A stitch in time saves nine” in perspective and priority.
