Becoming Buddha Making Buddha

Good morning!

Now we have the candle flame burning straight, the flower blooming just as in the field, the incense burning fragrant at the altar. All are perfectly in truth, goodness, and beauty. Make offerings to buddhas, wholly wholesome.

The haiku sage Basho said, “Listen to pines about pines.” Listen to flowers, incense, and candle – how they can become buddhas (jôbutsu, 成仏) – wholly wholesome. For that we must become buddha, wholly wholesome.
