Long-lasting Strong Societies

Good morning!

Now we have the full moon in the clear and chilly sky. Things change so fast that we must be awakened to and wakeful about the impermanence of our life.

Today’s NY Times op-ed article titled “Girls Just Want to Go to School,” by Nicholas Kristof from Vietnam, reports a 14-year-old girl getting up at 3 a.m. to prepare breakfast for her younger sister and brother and riding her bike 90 minutes to school, as her mother died from cancer and her father works away from home. She can sleep till 5 a.m. on Sundays.

The author informs us that the U.S. ranks 23rd in high school graduation rate among OECD countries and wishes we learn from her regarding our long-term strength, spending on education rather than spy satellites and aircraft carriers. Confucius said we can dispense soldiers, and even foods, but not trust. Without trust strong societies can’t be built and last long.

That’s why we now have Occupy movements all over the country and the globe. We must clear chilly money-ism, militarism, materialism, and me-ism for the wholly wholesome world.
