Militarism, Materialism, Me-ism Myths

Good evening!

A news item from Japan reported that Japan’s prime minister will announce his country’s abolishing of nuclear power tomorrow, on the anniversary of the Hiroshima atomic bomb. Sixty-six years ago, mankind dropped the first A-bomb on Hiroshima, instantly claiming more than a hundred thousand people’s lives, and still claiming lives now and into the future. The nuclear industry said that people could use its power peacefully. After the Fukushima disaster, intelligent people have been disillusioned about nuclear power, not only in Japan, but all over the world.

The prime minister said that Japan would like to lead the world in abolishing nuclear bombs because two atomic bombs were dropped on her. He also said that Japan has deeply reflected on (meaning “regret”) its belief in the mythology of the safety of nuclear power. The Fukushima disaster has given great anxiety to the world, and thus Japan has the duty to tell the truth of the non-safety of nuclear power, for our world now and for future generations.

We have the myth of militarism – that the pursuit of “power” is good. The second mythis materialism – that the pursuit of “matter” is good. The third myth is me-ism – that the pursuit of “me” is good. The last one is the ultimate cause of the preceding ones, and of the five calamities of delusion, bondage, discrimination, exploitation, and extermination. There is no predetermined harmony to be gained by pursuing only personal interests; it results only in the permanent five calamities, which we are now witnessing.

In contrast to this, we have the teaching of the Buddha, who was completely awakened and freed, living the holy (wholly wholesome) oneness, compassion, and peace. We can and need to continuously and constantly aspire, act, and attain unsurpassed awakening and unconditioned peace. If we just sit and stop our karmas, we find ourselves in original truth, peace, and freedom. This is the time when all of us must aspire for a truthful, peaceful, holy world in limitless life, light, liberation, and love.
