Witness with Work

Good morning!

When we get up early and come here to sit in zazen, we can enjoy the fresh morning air, the cool morning dew, and the bright morning sunlight.

When we cultivate the soil, sow seeds, and transplant, they grow as annual or perennial flowers or trees, some of them for hundreds or even thousands of years.

If we don’t have enough moisture, water, and sunlight, plants cannot grow well. Even if they germinate, they may not grow tall enough to get more sunlight, or get rooted well enough to get more water. Once the roots get settled, trees can grow remarkably rapidly.

Then, they are not affected by storms, sun heat or snow chill, and they can live for thousands of years. We, too, can get rooted in truth and peace, not just for a short while, but forever, depending on fertile soil by cultivation, and care of giving water, weeding, pruning, etc.

Thus, we can also enjoy growth, health, strength, flowering, and fruiting in harmony and happiness with abundant environment and endowment.
