Awakening for All: Zazen Value: Truth-Goodness-Beauty-Holiness
We have lies-evils-uglinesses-sins, which collide, corrode, corrupt, and collapse individuals, societies, and environments, with the global problematique and suffering, making the doomsday clock tick to the midnight of catastrophe.
These vices are man-made as the Sino-Japanese letter 偽 (man + action) shows. Human actions (karmas) are imbued with the triple poisons of desire, divisiveness, and delusion, poisoning individuals, societies, and ecologies.
Truth-goodness-beauty-holiness are the essential, eternal, universal virtues / values, natural in the natural world. Their integrities are not violated by trickeries by humans, et al. This is called the Dharma world / realm.
Zazen stills human artifices, as the Sino-Japanese letters 不 / 無為 (no + action) show, with no triple poisons and returning to original nature. We must cultivate ourselves in the triple learnings of morality, integration, and prognosis.

Notes:
- Are there universal standards in truth, goodness, beauty, and holiness? It seems that life is the essential, fundamental standard of these values? Living beings find truth, goodness, beauty, and holiness in life affirming things. Even if it seems difficult to define beauty, living beings want to appreciate fresh clean air, water, bright sunrise and sunset, bright warm sunlight, beautiful flowers, tasty fruits, etc. Spirit is related with spirare: to breath, the vital, fundamental function of life, underlying the brain functions of intellection, emotion, and volition. Truth, goodness, beauty may be limited by areas and eras, so need to become holy to become more universal.
- Sitting still (zazen: sitting meditation) makes one calm and clear, as a bowl settling down makes the water inside of it become calm and clear, reflecting the world. Constant cultivation of still sitting leads to calming (samatha/śamatha) and observation (vipassanā/vipaśyanā), nirvana and awakening (bodhi), witnessing the of truth world (Dhamma/Dharma-dhātu), and becoming the truth body (Dhamma/Dharma-kāya). Anyone can become like a harmonious, cooperating tree (harmonious with elements, giving oxygen, flowers, fruits, building materials, etc.), and truthful tree (both true and tree have the same etymological root of dhṝ, lasting: ten thousand year old tree found in Africa). (cf. Zen koan of a cypress tree in the garden).
- The solution of the global problematique, mutually related global problems such as climate change, mass extinction, nationalism, war, nukes, dictatorship, dogma, discrimination, pollution, poverty, requires the global ethic (issued by the Parliament of the World’s Religions in Chicago in 1993 with more than seven thousand people from all religions and from all over the world attending), which is based on the Five Precepts (and the fundamental common elements in the Ten Precepts, the Ten Commandments, etc. of Buddhism, etc.).The Inter-Action Institute drafted the Universal Declaration of Human Responsibilities (counterpart of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, to be published at the 50th anniversary of its issuance) to the U.N. to publish, but it has been shelved until now.

- A paradigm shift from our artificial, unilateral pyramidal civilization to a natural, cyclical Indra-net life culture for sharing life, heart, and harmony with the five blisses (awakening, freedom, equality, friendship, and peace) is essential to solve the global problematique. Culture is the cultivation of our potential in truth, goodness, beauty, and holiness (cf. sciences, philosophies, arts, and religions).
