Moon and Turtle

Good morning!

Did you see the full moon? (Yes!) Great! The full moon is compared to the Buddha mind, awakened mind, bright and brimming in perfect roundness, in complete calmness and clarity.

When we sit, we see the Buddha mind in penetrating pure peace and prognosis, illuminating all in holy (wholly wholesome) truth, peace, goodness, and beauty.

The common saying goes:

Tsuki-to suppon (月とスッポン: The moon and the turtle).

The Buddha said that the chance of being born as a human being is rarer than a blind turtle, living at the bottom of ocean, coming up and sticking its head into a hole of a floating log. Meeting the Awakened Way is rarer still.

We also say:

Undei-no sa (雲泥の差: The difference between clouds and mud).

This is like the difference between the blind mind and the awakened mind. We are so fortunate to meet theAwakened Way, so that we can witness the Buddha mind, the wholly wholesome truth, peace, goodness, and beauty.
