Become Bodhisattva

Good morning!

We have a nice warm morning still, but the weather is forecast to go down below the freezing point today. The bright moon is still illuminating the whole world.

A news piece from Japan with few bright news reported an accident of a car falling 30m on the river bank with an old man of 81 and a child of 3 and their pet dog.

They were left overnight in the snow at freezing point with windows broken, with no means to call for help. Their pet dog warmed the child and they were later found and saved.

There was a story in India that two girls were discarded by human parents and saved and raised by a wolf. These news pieces brighten anyone’s heart all over the world.

One of the richest persons in the world used hundreds of cops to forcibly evict and arrest about a hundred protesters at the Freedom Park. Such news darkens our hearts world- wide.

We must have minds like the moon illuming the whole world. If we are homo sapiens, wise animals, why can’t we become wiser, becoming bodhisattvas, awakening beings?

Dogen said that giving is one dharma which benefits the self and others. Even animals can give us life. Why can’t homo sapiens be mahâsattvas, great beings, giving life?
