Democracy or Dictatorship: Holiness or Sin?

Democracy or Dictatorship: Holiness or Sin?

Humans developed cities (called polis, pura, burg, etc.), gaining the status of city states, advancing into nation states, and creating civilization (urbanization, from civitas, city, pyramidal system with five calamities). States developed the status of leadership of statemen or politicians, making democracies or dictatorships. Politics inwardly was originally for citizens, but declined for politicians, and outwardly tend to competition and even destruction and annihilation.

Statehood is essentially selfish, deriving from the individuals’ selfishness, discriminating against others, even destroying other selves, states, and systems, including the whole life system, as we see in wars, ecological crises, and even nuclear holocaust. This selfishness is more conspicuous in dictatorship states than democratic ones, even though dictatorial tendencies are observable in any so-called democratic states by corruption and conspiracies with power politics and profits.

The solution of the selfishness of the selves and states lies in everyone’s awakening to one’s karma with the triple poisons and cultivation in the universal Dharma of Dependent Co-origination, i.e., all are interdependently co-originated, thus all are interrelated and interinfluenced. When we all observe the Dharma (truth/ethic), we can solve individual, social, and environmental problems in the five blisses of awakening, freedom, holiness, love, and peace.

We must shift from karma to Dharma, ego to eco, sin (separated sickness) to holiness (wholly wholesomeness), an unnatural, uni-directional pyramidal civilization to a natural, cyclical life Indra-net culture, regional ethic to global ethic, nationalism to globalism, etc. We should not allow anyone to violate the Dharma, global ethic (based on the Five Precepts, Ten Commandments), and become a dictator or a pseudo-dictator, violating the public peace, truth, and trust.

July 6, 2024 C.E.

Note:

  1. Dharma means 1. form (from d-harm: phenomenon) and 2. norm (from d-h-arm: norm: law operating through phenomena: ethic), and 3. the teaching of the law of all phenomena, that is, Dependent Co-origination (originally awakened on the origination of perception/consciousness depending on the sense organs and objects, but later applied to all phenomena, cf. note 2). This law is similar to the law of causality, now used by sciences, but deeper and wider, applied beyond objects – more on subjects and symbols – ideas, etc.).

  1. “The Dharma (Norm/Law/Truth/Ethic) of all dharmas (forms/phenomena/ truths/ethics)” is Dependent Co-origination, i.e., all phenomena are interdependently co-originated on limitless causes and conditions (similar to the Law of Causality, but deeper and wider – beyond conventions, conceptions, objects, etc.). This means that we are interrelated with other beings (other species, elements, stars, etc.), and relatives to each other, and that we must therefore live together harmoniously and strive to make a wholly wholesome world to become harmonious, healthy, and happy.

  1. Ernst Cassirer defined humans as homo symbolicum in his Philosophy of Symbolism, its summary An Essay on Man, where humans are described as skillful in handling the symbolisms of language, myth, religion, art, science, history, etc. The Myth of the State is an important work that to shows how states operate and how people are misled to wars and even nuclear demise.

  1. A paradigm shift from our artificial, unilateral pyramidal civilization to a natural, cyclical Indra-net life culture for sharing life, heart, and harmony with the five blisses (awakening, freedom, equality, friendship, and peace) is essential to solve the global problematique. Culture is the cultivation of our potential in truth, goodness, beauty, and holiness (cf. sciences, philosophies, arts, and religions).

Please refer to the following for more detailed explanation:

https://heiwasekai.wordpress.com/2018/01/20/%e3%80%8c%e6%9e%a0%e7%b5%84%e8%bb%a2%e6%8f%9b%e3%80%8d%ef%bc%9aparadigm-shift/?fbclid=IwAR2PEo9t4YwkwTSo4QRdVseqW08HeASD7orrenbOQLh181s72MAbV-WxkuM

  1. The solution to the global problematique requires the global ethic (issued by the Parliament of the World’s Religions in Chicago in 1993 with more than seven thousand people from all religions and from all over the world attending), which is based on the Five Precepts (and the fundamental common elements in the Ten Precepts, the Ten Commandments, etc.).

  1. Karma is instilled with the triple poisons of desire, divisiveness, and delusion (of ego/mei: I/my). The Buddha said that all living beings are karma-birthed, -heirs, -owners, -machines, and -refuged. He clarified that there is no self-substance with self-sameness (permanent) and self-sovereignty (wishful) entities due to the Dharma (Truth/Law) of all dharmas (phenomena), Dependent Co-origination. We as karma-machines must change to the Dharma-refuged in order to change the world in suffering to that of one in holiness (wholly wholesome: harmonious, healthy, and happy).
  2. To reunite with the holiness of the limitless ocean of life from being a separated small bubble or foam of ego or group ego is the goal of anyone or a universal religion, where one lives as a true friend in need of all, as expressed in Mitra, Mithra, Metteya, Maitreya, Mazda, Massiah, etc., and who lives in limitless life, light, liberation, and love.
  3. We must abolish a system that allows one or a few to use nuclear bombs to devastate the whole world, even to the point of destroying the total global system, together with the nationalism, nukes, war, dictatorship, discrimination, and dogmatism that make it possible.

https://heiwasekai.wordpress.com/2018/01/20/%e3%80%8c%e6%9e%a0%e7%b5%84%e8%bb%a2%e6%8f%9b%e3%80%8d%ef%bc%9aparadigm-shift/?fbclid=IwAR2PEo9t4YwkwTSo4QRdVseqW08HeASD7orrenbOQLh181s72MAbV-WxkuM

JOHANNESWEG 3, by Garyo Daiho (Gertraud Wild)

JOHANNESWEG 3

The next two days, we still had to hike more than 40 km. Sigrid and I like to experience the joy of walking by feeling our feet on the ground, listening to the sounds of nature, talking with locals and exploring interesting sites. We are slow hikers and savor the moment. We also love to stay for a while in beautiful places, rest and read poetry. Our first resting place this day was a chapel on the Kammererberg.

.

.

.

.

The chapel was decorated with birch trees and many fresh flowers, remnants from the festival of Fronleichnam (festival of Corpus Christi).

.

.

.

.

In chapels and shrines in the countryside, it is common to express the intimate love between mother and child. Every so often, the love between father and child is expressed by St. Joseph holding his son.

                                                    St. Joseph with Jesus

.

.

.

.

We enjoyed the beautiful view with the Alps slightly visible in the far distance.

.

.

.

.

We passed this interesting site called “Augenbründl”, springwater used for healing the eyes since ancient times. We not only washed our faces but also filled our water bottles with this fresh, cool water.

When we approached the Biobauernhof (organic farm) of the family Thauerböck, we were greeted by a nice couple working together beside a stack of wood. They were the senior owners of the farm producing different kinds of Schnaps (brandy). He invited us to visit his tasting place. It was a beautiful wooden gazebo. Pilgrims could enter and choose for a small fee the brandy they wanted to taste. Everything was honor based. I told him that I recently had celebrated my birthday. It turned out that we were born on the same day – May 29. We celebrated our birthdays with a free shot of Spelt brandy – delicious!

.

Sepp, Sigrid and I toasting to our birthdays with Schnaps. Sigrid and I were impressed by his philosophy and life style – he told us that he walks the Johannesweg at least once a year in one day. He starts the hike at 3am arrives at his home at 11 pm.

.

.

.

.

Some of many different kinds of brandies such as sage brandy and lavender brandy – used as “medicine”.

.

.

.

.

Sepp built benches and a swing on his property for the pilgrims to use. Harmony and peace, he said, are the most important things for him in life.

Nature was gifting us with many beautiful flowers.

In one of the front gardens, we saw Azalea bushes in full bloom

.

I always like to visit Austrian cemeteries. The people care for the graves and plant beautiful flowers. It is a very peaceful place. However, there is also a social pressure to keep the gravesite beautiful.

.

.

.

.

On our way, we often saw these “rock islands”, a space not used for agriculture because of the huge rocks laying on the ground.

.

.

.

The church in Königswiesen was originally built in the 12th century and modernized in the Gothic style in the 15th century.

.

After visiting another ruin, we arrived at the village of Pierbach, where we had started our pilgrimage. We spent the night in the nearby village called Bad Zell, enjoying the healing waters, saunas and other amenities in the hotel Lebensquell.

The ancient walls of Ruine Ruttgenstein

The smell of this abundant blooming rosebush was a metaphor for our entire pilgrimage – a gift of life.

Thank you, my dear friends, for walking with me the Johannesweg and enjoying the beauty of this pilgrimage.

JOHANNESWEG 2

Walking with Sigrid is always very special. She is a Silat instructor (Indonesian martial arts) and during every hike we find time to practice Silat together. We did so before we started our hike. We have also developed a tradition to read poetry at certain places. Most of the time it is John O’Donohue’s book, “Bless the space between us”, containing poetry for every phase of life.

.

.

.

.

Typical landscape with “Vierkanthof” (farmhouse with a square court) in the background

We soon arrived at a majestic ruin called “Ruine Prandegg. It was built in the beginning of the 13th century, when the entire area was still wilderness. After several hundreds of years, it lost its function of protecting the population and became a ruin when the roof was removed. Many castles became ruins because of the expensive roof tax which was introduced by the Habsburgs at the end of the 18th century (the taxes were determined according to the size of the roof).

                                                Information about the castle

.

We were in awe seeing the ancient walls and learning about the old ways of life. We started by walking through a medieval herb garden containing flowers and all kinds of poisonous plants. In the Middle ages, they were used for medical purposes but also for magic and everyday life.

The beauty of the margaritas was enhanced by ancient stone walls

.

.

.

.

Windows which are not windows anymore, doorways, cellars, stairs leading to nowhere and the many former levels of the castle – all having lost their purposes and are at the same time so beautiful, embraced by the huge sky and becoming ground for new life.

..

.

.

.

After walking around the ruin on wooden walkways and stairs, we had a drink at the former castle dairy, now a restaurant. The smell of the fresh baked bread made in a pizza oven was so delicious, that we bought some for lunch later in the day.

.

.

.

.

.

There was also a museum at the castle, showing many interesting things.

.

.

.

When a married couple had too many fights, they were punished. Husband and wife had to publicly lay together in a crib, where they were bound together until they stopped fighting.

Soon after we left the castle, we arrived at a powerful rock formation called “Herzogsreitherfelsen”, an ancient place of worship. It provided us with a fantastic view of the surrounding area.

.

.

.

.

                                               Narrow ladder to the top

Another ancent monument was a moss covered rock with a cutout basin at the top, used for offerings. We climbed up another ladder to see it.

On our way, we could pick strawberries and blueberries

.

.

.

.

Sigrid and I are doing the same style of hiking – we want to experience things. A friend suggested this bakery in St. Leonhard, a small village. The pastries were not only big, but very delicious!

.

.

.

.

A toilet in the middle of the forest was a big surprise. I have seen toilets like this on my Japanese hikes, but never before in Austria.

.

.

A waterfall of different moss, soft and thick like a sponge.

                                                     A magical forest

This structure in the middle of the forest is a former “Galgen”, a gallows. The place is called Galgenbuehel. An inscription nearby says that the lord of this area never used it to hang people, but built it to scare them

We stayed at the hotel Neulinger in Weitersfelden.

JOHANNESWEG 1, by Garyo Daiho(Gertraud Wild)

JOHANNESWEG

About twelve years ago, a dermatologist from Upper Austria created an 85 km long pilgrimage through a landscape of forests and boulders covered by thick mosses, murmuring creeks, meadows reaching up to the horizon with abundant blooming wildflowers , castles, churches and traditional “Vierkanthoefe” (farmhouses with square courtyards). This pilgrimage meanders like a lily (symbol for light) through the countryside. By constantly hiking up and down hills and low mountains, at the end of the pilgrimage, one has made elevation changes totaling 9000 feet.

.

.

.

Sigrid and I with our bag backs

On our way to the starting point of our pilgrimage, we stopped in a village called St. Thomas am Blasenstein. This charming little place is known for a mummy resting in a casket for over 300 years. The mummy is called ” der Gselchte Pfarrer” (smoked priest) and can be publicly seen by just paying two Euros. He died pretty young and his belly was stuffed with small pieces of wood, cloth and other things. His body was probably mummified by sealing it from air. Nobody knows why they wanted to preserve the body. Now, he smiles at every visitor, reminding the viewer of the shortness and preciousness of life.

.

.

.

                                     Entrance to the crypt

.

.

.

Franz Xaver, one of 13 children, was born on June 4, 1709. He became a priest and died when he was 37 years old. The reason for his death is unknown. It might have been tuberculosis.

.

.

.

The first day we only walked about 15 km. I filled my water bottle at the Johannesbrunnen, a well with delicious, fresh water.

.

.

.

Sigrid walking toward the chapel

.

A sign beside the chapel says ” Humor should be a companion in your life. It vitalizes your spirit and enjoys people”. It was the first of twelve wisdom sayings located on different places along our path. Humor and joy were truly our third companion.

.

.

.

Very typical for the countryside in Austria are those little shrines called Marterl. Most of the time they house a statue of Mary or Jesus.

.

.

.

The area inside the wooden fence has a vegetable garden. Each farmhouse grows its own vegetables.

.

.

.

A shrine with Jesus pointing to his burning heart – a very common symbol

.

.

.

A powerful thunderstorm was approaching when we stood in front of the church dedicated to St. James. It was the right place to take refuge from the rain. When we entered, one man was sitting in the front of the church, praying. He turned around and ask us if we want a ride to our accommodation. With Sigrid not liking to hike in a thunderstorm, it seemed to be a blessing. ” Just wait for 20 minutes” he said, “then I will have finished my “Andacht” (prayer). After 15 minutes, sunlight was suddenly breaking through the windows and the sky was clear again. We did not need his offer, but thanked this kind man. It was the beginning of us meeting many nice and warmhearted people.

.

.

.

Many churches on our pilgrimage were decorated with birch trees. It is a tradition in this part of Austria to celebrate the Eucharist on a special day called “Fronleichnam”. This day is still an official holiday in Austria. Fronleichnam was special for me as a child because I could wear a white dress, have a wreath in my hair and carry a basket of roses during the procession of the monstrance.

.

.

.

                                   Walking through the forest

.

.

.

We arrived at a rock formation called “Herrgottssitz” (throne of God). Since ancient times, this rock was considered as a sacred place. Offerings and rituals were performed on the top. A steal rope was helpful for climbing up.

.

.

.

.

.

.

                                                              Typical landscape

.

.

.

I was in awe of the many rock formations with thick moss in many shades of green. This is a truly mystical landscape.

.

.

.

Large meadows and stone walls overgrown by succulents alternated with forests and rock formations covered by thick moss. It was fascinating to see both vegetations so close together.

.

.

.

Sigrid and I stayed the first night in a farmhouse similar to the one above. We were the only guests. The lady of the house provided dinner for us because there was no restaurant nearby. The building is typical for this area – white facade imbedded with large rocks.

.

.

.

Game ragout with noodles, potato croquettes, mixed vegetables and green lettuce – a real treat!

From Hell Horror to Pure-land Peace!

From Hell Horror to Pure-land Peace!

The Buddha realized nirvana (no wind, of karma) and awakened to the Dharma (Norm/Law) of all dharmas (form/phenomena), Dependent Co-origination, i.e., all phenomena are dependently co-originated on limitless causes and conditions. This was prognosticated in the Four Holy Truth, Eight Holy Ways, Twelve-limbed Dependent Co-origination, etc.

Our sufferings are originated on the karma (action, habit, heredity) of the triple poisons (desire, divisiveness, and delusion) in samsara (constant flow of birth and death: impermanence). We desire life, comfort, gain, praise, fame, but must die, suffer, lose, be censured, and be defamed. Karma has a long history of struggle for survival and is thus imbued with selfish instinct.

No one can escape from suffering and the selfish survival struggle, unless one stills karma with its triple poisons and stops suffering in samsara.  However, anyone can sit still and still (present, past, and future physical, verbal, mental) karma to settle in nirvana, see the Dharma, serve and save all, individually, socially, and environmentally.

The concrete way to realize these things is in the Eight Holy Ways (right view, thinking, speech, action, livelihood, mindfulness, striving, concentration). These are summarized in the triple learnings (morality, concentration, prognosis) countering and ceasing the triple poisons. We must apply these in our political, economic, social, and cultural lives.

June 28, 2024 C.E.

Note:

  1. The first turning of the Dharma wheel by the Buddha is said to be in the Four holy Truths and the Eight Holy Ways, the Twelve-limbed Dependent Co-origination, etc., but these are essentially the same as the application or illustration of the Dependent Co-origination for different audiences on different occasions.
  2. Sotōha (Zudongpo) sat alone and prostrated to the Buddha, and instantly composed a verse:

I bow to the Divinity of the Divinities,

Whose light at the forehead illuminates the great thousand world,

Eight winds blow, but it remains unmoved by these winds,

Sitting upright upon the purple gold lotus.

The eight winds are gain, loss, fame, criticism, censure, praise, suffering,               and comfort.

              https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Su_Shi

  1. We can’t and shouldn’t choose and elect anyone who doesn’t live by the Eight Holy Ways and the Five Precepts (fundamental morality, basis of the Global Ethic) lest they should cause and create problems and sufferings individually, socially, and environmentally.

Politics Polarizes, Religion Reunites!

Politics Polarizes, Religion Reunites!

Siddhattha was legendarily prophesied to become a universal king or a religious leader. King Bimbisara of Magadha offered him military power and financial support. He rejected the power of “punishing rods and swords” and chose truth and goodness.

Since city states until nation states, power politics has polarized people and states, now endangering to the point of total annihilation all living beings with wars, nuclear holocaust, ecological destruction, etc. due to karmic sin (separation: selfish sickness).

Religion has been reuniting with holiness (wholesome whole), but often falls back to karmic sin (self, state, symbolism, etc.). Karma is a billion years old, since life started, and strong, difficult to see and sever. There is a way to still it and its sinfulness.

The Buddha provided us with the way to still karma by sitting and stilling the body and mind in nirvana and awakening in the Dharma (universal truth/goodness). All our problems and sufferings can be stilled in nirvana and awakening, individually, socially, and ecologically.

Notes:

We as karma-machines must change to the Dharma-refuged in order to change the world in suffering to that in holiness (wholly wholesome: harmonious, healthy, and happy).
  2. Dharma means 1. form (from d-harm: phenomenon) and 2. norm (from d-h-arm: norm: law operating through phenomena: ethic), and 3. the teaching of the law of all phenomena, that is, Dependent Co-origination (originally awakened on the origination of perception/consciousness depending on the sense organs and objects, but later applied to all phenomena, cf. note 5).

This means that we are interrelated with other beings (other species, elements, stars, etc.), and relatives to each other, and that we must therefore live together harmoniously and strive to make a wholly wholesome world to become harmonious, health, and happy.

There Is Universal Truth and a Solution!

There Is Universal Truth and a Solution!

Suffering is threefold – individual, social, and environmental. The Buddha was awakened to the universal truth/law of all phenomena, Dependent Co-origination, and to the universal solution for suffering, the Four Holy Truths.

The Twelve-limbed Dependent Co-origination explains how individual suffering originates from the Triple Poisons of karma, driven by karma, fundamentally by nescience. The Triple Learnings can solve these.

Social suffering originates as the collective of individual karmas and nescience. Our social systems and institutions must be reformed but, fundamentally, individual and social karma must be awakened, cultivated, and reformed.

Our ecological suffering is increasingly affected by human karma even to total collapse. The Buddha foresaw this and worked to save all from destruction. We can and must do so as well, cultivating and verifying nirvana/awakening.

Notes:

This means that we are interrelated with other beings (other species, elements, stars, etc.), and relatives to each other, and that we must therefore live together harmoniously and strive to make a wholly wholesome world to become harmonious, health, and happy.

  1. The four holy truths are that of suffering (duk-kha, wrong-going, going against wishes), cause of it (identified as craving: taṅhā/tṛṣṇā, lit. thirst, as drinking seawater), cessation of it (identified as nirvana: no-wind, cf. nivāte padīpa: lamplight in no-wind), and way for it (identified as the eight holy ways).

  1. The twelve-limbed Dependent Co-origination (bhava-cakka/bhava-cakra, becoming wheel) is the most well-known representative application of the Dharma of Dependent Co-origination, though it is misinterpreted due to its linear presentation by oral tradition and the Hindu idea of transmigration (an embryogenetical interpretation called two causalities in three generations). Actually, it is a compound formed from the Dependent Co-origination of consciousness on sense organs and objects, of suffering on craving, and of samsara (total flow: moment-to-moment change, not like transmigration in Hinduism) on appropriation. It illustrates how our life goes with the five aggregates (originally identifying and analyzing so-called “self,” later “world”), resulting in suffering due to the triple poisons.

Please refer to part 3 of “Why Buddhism Now?” for a detailed explanation with the structural system of the “Becoming Wheel” (bhava cakka/cakra):

The Buddha said that all living beings are karma-birthed, -heirs, -owners, -machines, and -refuged. He clarified that there is no self-substance with self-sameness (permanent) and self-sovereignty (wishful) entities due to the Dharma (Truth/Law) of all dharmas (phenomena), Dependent Co-origination. We as karma-machines must change to the Dharma-refuged in order to change the world in suffering to that in holiness (wholly wholesome: harmonious, healthy, and happy).

  1. Nescience (avijjā/avidyā) means no witness of nirvana (no wind, of karma) and the world in it (cf. Latin video) due to our being karma-machines, like a mouse continuously running on a treadwheel, not stopping to sit still, settle in nirvana, and see the Dharma, serving and saving all.

  1. The Triple Poisons are desire, divisiveness, and delusion (of a self-same, self-sovereign self). The “Triple Only” are only me, only now, and only money (short-sighted views and actions, which make the wider world worse) , which can be cured by the Triple Learnings of morality, concentration, and prognosis.

  1. Religion derives from Latin religare (reunion). Religion is, thus, to reunite with holiness (wholly wholesomeness, cf. Rudolf Otto’s definition of religion as the Holy) from sin (=separation, separated sick, cf. a-sun-der, sundry).

  1. The solution of the global problematique requires the global ethic (issued by the Parliament of the World’s Religions in Chicago in 1993 with more than seven thousand people from all religions and from all over the world attending), which is based on the Five Precepts (and the fundamental common elements in the Ten Precepts, the Ten Commandments, etc.).

  1. We must abolish a system that allows one or a few to use nuclear bombs to devastate the whole world, even to the point of destroying the total global system, together with the nationalism, nukes, war, dictatorship, discrimination, and dogmatism that make it possible.

The triple poisons come from nescience!

The triple poisons come from nescience!

The Buddha was awakened to the truth of the problem of the triple poisons of desire, divisiveness, and delusion, and of the solution of suffering, strife, and samsara. He found that they come from karma. He taught us to know the Dharma and to practice the triple learnings of morality, concentration, and prognosis to solve them.

If we know the Dharma of Dependent Co-origination of all phenomena, we see that our suffering comes from desire, like the thirst that causes us to drink sea water when shipwrecked, even if we know that it makes us thirstier. We can apply the four holy truths of suffering, its cause, its cessation, and the eight holy ways to solve it.

Our divisiveness, anger, fighting, and war come from our ignorance and inaction in solving them. If we know the Dharma of Dependent Co-origination of all phenomena, we can understand that there is no separate, sovereign self from others, and that we must co-exist in holy (wholly wholesome) harmony, friendship, and peace.

Our samsara (constant change) through the six ways (states) of humans, animals, fighting devils, celestials, hungry ghosts, and hell beings comes from our nescience (no witness) of nirvana (no wind, of karma) due to constant karma kinetics (action, habits, heredity) for food, mates, etc. Nirvana makes us awakened (buddha).

Note:

  1. Dharma means 1. form (from d-harm: phenomenon) and 2. norm (from d-h-arm: norm: law operating through phenomena: ethic), and 3. the teaching of the law of all phenomena, that is, Dependent Co-origination (originally awakened on the origination of perception/consciousness depending on the sense organs and objects, but later applied to all phenomena, cf. note 5).

This means that we are interrelated with other beings (other species, elements, stars, etc.), and relatives to each other, and that we must therefore live together harmoniously and strive to make a wholly wholesome world to become harmonious, health, and happy.

Please refer to part 3 of “Why Buddhism Now?” for a detailed explanation with the structural system of the “Becoming Wheel” (bhava cakka/cakra):

https://buddhism869196463.wordpress.com/%e3%83%9b%e3%83%bc%e3%83%a0%ef%bc%9ahome/

  1. The Six Ways (States) of human being, celestial being, animal being, fighting devil, hungry ghost, and hell beings are alegorical states of our mind-world states from moment to moment, not like the Hindu idea of being born to be such after death.

  1. The eight holy (ariya/ārya) ways (ariya-aṭṭhaṅgika-magga/ ārya-aṣṭāṅga-mārga) are right view (sammā‑diṭṭhi/ samyag-dṛṣṭi), right thinking (sammā-saṅkappa/ samyak-saṃkalpa), right speech (sammā-vācā/ samyag-vāc), right action (sammā-kammanta/ samyak-karmānta), right livelihood (sammā-ājīva/ samyag-ājīva), right striving (sammā-vāyāma/ samyag-vyāyāma), right mindfulness (sammā-sati/ samyak-smṛti), right concentration (sammā-samādhi/ samyak-samādhi).

1 = ±∞ One Can Create/Cause Limitless Happiness/Suffering! 1 = ±∞ 人は無限の幸福/苦悩を創造/惹起し得る!

1 = ±∞ One Can Create/Cause Limitless Happiness/Suffering!

One can create/cause limitless happiness/suffering in oneself/others by one’s cultivation/indolence to awakening/delusion in nirvana (no wind, of karma)/karma to limitless life, light, liberation, and love/death, darkness, bondage, and hatred.

One, as karma-born, -heir, -owner, -machine, can remain in indolence to delusion, in bad karma to limitless death, darkness, bondage, and hatred, even causing the total annihilation of all life forms on earth by nuclear holocaust (entire extermination).

One, as karma-born, -heir, -owner, -refuged in good karma, can cultivate to awakening in nirvana to limitless life, light, liberation and love, even benefitting all in complete cooperation of all life forms on earth by friendship holiness (whole wholesomeness).

One can remain indolent and bound in the three paths/pedlings of delusion-karma-suffering, or can cultivate and verify the three paths/practices of awakening-path-happiness. Anyone can witness the four holy truths and walk on the eight holy paths.

  1. We must abolish a system that allows one or a few to use nuclear bombs to devastate the whole world, even to the point of destroying the total global system, together with the nationalism, nukes, war, dictatorship, discrimination, and dogmatism that make it possible.
  2. The four holy truths are those of suffering (duk-kha, wrong-going, going against wishes), the cause of it (identified as craving: taṅhā/tṛṣṇā, lit. thirst, as drinking seawater), the cessation of it (identified as nirvana: no-wind, cf. nivāte padīpa: lamplight in no-wind), and the way for it (identified as the eight holy ways).
  3. The eight holy (ariya/ārya) ways (ariya-aṭṭhaṅgika-magga/ ārya-aṣṭāṅga-mārga) are right view (sammā‑diṭṭhi/ samyag-dṛṣṭi), right thinking (sammā-saṅkappa/ samyak-saṃkalpa), right speech (sammā-vācā/ samyag-vāc), right action (sammā-kammanta/ samyak-karmānta), right livelihood (sammā-ājīva/ samyag-ājīva), right striving (sammā-vāyāma/ samyag-vyāyāma), right mindfulness (sammā-sati/ samyak-smṛti), right concentration (sammā-samādhi/ samyak-samādhi).

註:

0 = Zeroness Is Boundless Bounty!

We are all karma-born and -bound, possessing the triple poisons of desire, divisiveness, and delusion and living the triple paths (steps) of delusion, karma, and suffering. The delusion of self divides others, desiring others, resulting in suffering (dissatisfaction).

We act as karma-machines, driven by karma imbued with the triple poisons in self-survival strife since life started four billion years ago. Karma (action, habit, heredity) continues to reinforce the triple paths in time, space, scale, speed, and synergy.

Stilling this process lies in stilling the triple actions of our bodies, mouths, and minds (body, breathing, brain). The Buddha found that through still sitting, karma can be stilled; we can settle in nirvana (no wind, of karma), see the Dharma, and serve and save all from suffering.

Sitting meditation (za-zen) is the core practice of it. Zen leads to suññatā / śūnyatā (zeroness, of karma, self, life-death, etc.), which leads to boundless bounty; we can witness the Dharma world, like the Indra-net, in freedom and fulness, the wholly wholesome way and world.

April 19, 2024 C.E.

Note:

  1. Earth Day (April 22, 2024 C.E.) is a step closer to eco from ego, Dharma from karma, holiness (wholly wholesomeness) from sin (separated sickness), unity from division, etc. which can open the door to friendship (cf. Friend: Mitra, Mithra, Metteyya, Maitreya, Miroku, Mazda, Massiah, et al) of all, the common ideal of universal religions (cf. Buddhist four limitlessnesses or Brahma-vihāra, pure/supreme-abode of friendship, compassion, joy, and equanimity/emancipation/letting go: upekhā)
  2. The two refuges of self and Dharma are for the self to become Dharma, making oneself into boundless bounty as mentioned “I (Buddha seeing the morning star) with all beings on earth simultaneously attain the Way,” “In (possessing) nothing is (the storage of) the inexhaustible,” “in the falling away of the body and mind, realization of the universal truth,” “the entire world in ten directions in a clear crystal ball,” which is“the storage of light,” “the Buddha body,” “the Dharma body,” “the true human body,” etc.
  3. Karma is instilled with the triple poisons of desire, divisiveness, and delusion (of ego / mei: I / my). The Buddha said that all living beings are karma-birthed, -heirs, -owners, -machines, and -refuged. He clarified that there is no self-substance with self-sameness (permanent) and self-sovereignty (wishful) entities due to the Dharma (Truth / Law) of all dharmas (phenomena), Dependent Co-origination. We as karma-machines must change to the Dharma-refuged in order to change the world in suffering to that in holiness (wholly wholesome: harmonious, healthy, and happy).
  4. Dharma means 1. form (from d-harm: phenomenon) and 2. norm (from d-h-arm: norm: law operating through phenomena: ethic), and 3. the teaching of the law of all phenomena, that is, Dependent Co-origination (originally awakened on the origination of perception/consciousness depending on the sense organs and objects, but later applied to all phenomena, cf. note 5). This law is similar to the law of causality, now used by sciences, but deeper and wider, applied beyond objects – more on subjects and symbols – ideas, etc.).
  5. This means that we are interrelated with other beings (other species, elements, stars, etc.), and relatives to each other, and that we must therefore live together harmoniously and strive to make a wholly wholesome world to become harmonious, health, and happy.
  6. The Indra-net, whose crystal balls on its knots reflect each other mutually and limitlessly in space and time, illustrates the Dharma of Dependent Co-origination well, showing that all phenomena are interdependently co-originated and co-originating among themselves. One (person or thing) is interconnected with others (persons or things) by elements (air, water, light, magnetism, chemicals, particles, sounds, colors, etc.), molecules, microorganisms, communications (words, arts, media, internet, etc.), actions (of viruses, plants, animals, humans, stars, etc.), etc. inside and outside, in space and time limitlessly.
  7. The life system is in a limitlessly interdependent and interrelated system throughout limitless space and time. If we can acknowledge and activate it, we can function as limitless life, light, liberation, and love, like the crystal balls of the Indra-net, making it holy (wholly wholesome), harmonious, healthy, and happy, calm and clear, collectively and continuously.
  8. Za-zen (sitting meditation) orders and stills body, breath, and brain (bodily, verbal, and mental) karmas. The Four Zen Stages illustrate the stilling process of mental (intellectual, emotional, and volitional) karmas, stilling contemplation/investigation, joy, and comfort, resulting in the reaching of equanimity (upekhā/upekṣā, lit. discarding), nirvana.

Please refer to parts 4 (nirvana) and 5 (zen) of “Why Buddhism Now”:

ホーム:HOME

  1. Samādhi is essential to go beyond karma (especially its Triple Poisons of desire, divisiveness, and delusion) and settle in nirvana (by sitting still, stilling karma, settling in nirvana, seeing the Dharma/dharmas/Dharma world, and serving and saving all), in which true meditation and its prognosis (paññā/prajñā) can function.
  2. The solution of the global problematique, interrelated global problems such as global warming, mass extinction, nationalism, war, nuke, dictatorship, dogma, discrimination, prolusion, poverty, requires the global ethic (issued by the Parliament of the World’s Religions in Chicago in 1993 with more than seven thousand people from all religions and from all over the world attending), which is based on the Five Precepts (and the fundamental common elements in the Ten Precepts, the Ten Commandments, etc.).

0 = 空性は無限の豊驍である!
