Awakening, Ability, Attaining Amrita

    Good morning!   We can have good sittings and service with beautiful flowers and nice incense adorning the Buddha. When we sit still and serene, we stop karmas, settle in dharmas. This is great virtue and victory, as the Buddha said:   Better than those who would conquer thousands upon thousands in the battlefield is the one who would conquer oneself. This is the true conqueror.   So, let us try to settle in nirvana, unconditioned peace, and anuttara samyak  sambodhi, unsurpassed right awakening, with careful calming and clarity with strong and subtle cultivation and care with our whole hearts and beings.   We can realize holy (wholly wholesome) harmony, health, and happiness in the Four Brahma-vihāra (abode or living) or limitlessnesses of equanimity, joy, compassion, and friendship.   We can enjoy the true Triple Treasures of the Awakened, Dharma, and Saṇgha through the Triple Learnings of sīla, samādhi, and prajñā (morality, concentration, and prognosis).   Last night I forwarded Oliver Stone’s video series of his film Untold History of the  United States, as it is rebroadcast by NHK (Japanese Public Broadcasting Association).   It shows World War II, the Cold War, Global War on Terror, etc. with mass murder and miseries from the lack of ability, awakening, sensitivity, and senses of politicians, professionals, and people in general.   These things have come from people’s karmas, the Triple Maladies of me-ism, materialism, and militarism represented by money-ism, bound by the Triple Poisons of delusion, greed, and anger.   As the movie clearly illustrates, all participated in such savageries and sufferings, and were all losers and lunatics going through the Six Paths of hell beings, hungry ghosts, fighting devils, beastly beings, etc. … Continue reading →

Paradigm Shift of Ego, Economy, and Ecology

    Good morning!   About twenty-five centuries ago the Buddha foresaw the destruction of the world due to the triple poisons and had been striving every day to share with all beings the way to forsake and surrender (we must surrender all  to the Dharma-dhatu anyway) them. He taught the lessons of  “the world on fire” (seeing an actual village fire and sharing the cause of it in terms of the six sense organs burning) and “the son’s flesh” (the story of parents lost in the desert eating their beloved son’s flesh out of hunger and thirst, indicating our sacrifice of the most valuable things out of thirst, taṇhā), which we witness in global warming and the sacrifice of future generations.   Mankind is now the culprit of the sixth mass extinction, more than a hundred species extinct per day, with overcatching, habitat destruction, pollution of life systems, and changes in climate, sea levels, glaciers, and coral reefs causing mountain slides, fires, flooding, wars, starvation, genocides, and the defilement of bodies, brains, hearts, hara (guts), minds, mouths, individuals, societies, cultures, environments, etc. Ego, economy, and ecology are deluded, damaged, and destroyed by the triple poisons. An artificial uni-directional pyramidal system of civilization has replaced the natural cyclical Indra-net system of cultivation.   Bubbles and foam can exist only in the ocean, not the other way around. So, greater Ecology (eco-logos: home truth, Dharma-dhātu, Indra-net) must come first, before Economy (eco-nomos: home norm, home account) and Ego (I, Ich, Aham, actually no independent, eternal Ego or Self), which are both dependent upon Ecology.     Good evening!   Tonight we can see the bright clear cool full moon. It represents the Buddha heart, round in perfection, nothing lacking or superfluous, brilliant, clear, and calm in unconditioned peace and unsurpassed awakening.   Some can’t see, care not to see, can’t appreciate, care not to appreciate such a mind moon. Some can understand, can even activate the full moon behind the apparent shift of its phases of new, crescent, half, and full shining state.   12/17/13         The Full Moon Taken at 10:10 p.m. in St. Louis, MO, U.S.A.

Good morning!   Early risers can drive straight shortcuts through winding highways, without other drivers and with good perspective. Everyday drivers know that straight shortcuts may have ups and downs, including other drivers without good views. Expert fliers can reach the goal with perfect perspective and priority without other drivers and obstacles – nirvana and bodhi (awakening).   Late drivers course through winding ways in jammed traffic, meandering at slow speed. So many minds drive so many karma-cars, but there are only two car kinds or gaining goals: fortune and fame. Me-ism drives materialism and militarism, manipulated by money-ism. Mankind makes misfortunes in egoistic entity, economic entrapment, and ecological extinction.   Karma cars, dividing and driving the unified universal Dharma Dhātu (Root, Realm), run politics, economies, societies, and civilizations into a runaway course of extermination, exploitation, exclusion, and extinction with artificial unilateral pyramidal systems. One Dharma Dhātu, like a limitless ocean, comes first, not ego or economy, like a limited bubble.   The Dharma of Dependent Origination of the Dharma Dhātu dictates the total perspective and top priority, deciding them as wholly wholesome ecology, not ego or economy. We must sit, stop karmas, and see limitless liberation, life, light, and love, like the limitless windless sky, waveless sea, bright stars, and warm sun.   12/15/13

Dec. 8: Awakening Day

Good morning!   This is December 8, the day Siddhatta Gotama became buddha (awakened) about twenty five centuries ago, and the Awakened Way started. It was six years after he renounced his household life. He had tried many methods and eventually settled in meditation practice under two distinguished masters.   He found the right way to stop karmas (present and past – physical, verbal, and mental), as he recognized that all beings are karma heirs, relatives, and machines. He attained awakening by reaching nirvana (free of all karmas) and constantly practiced meditation until his pari-nirvana (complete nirvana).   The scriptures say that all seven past buddhas attained awakening to the  Twelvefold Dependent Origination. This illustrates the dependent origination of consciousness, samsara, and suffering, caused by karmas, driven by nescience and craving (two roots) in three steps (delusion-action-suffering).   All living beings are driving bhava-cakkhas (becoming wheels) driven by karmas, becoming beastly beings, hungry ghosts, fighting devils, hell beings, and celestial beings in constant flow (samsara), always in suffering (duk-kha, wrong- going, going against grain or wishes through birth, sickness, aging, death, etc.).   Nescience (a-vijjhā/a-vidyā – non-witnessing) of the above truth or existential three marks of impermanence (systemic synergy), suffering, and selflessness. It is created by appropriating and identifying the five aggregates (form/feeling/idea/formation/ consciousness) as “self” (soul, spirit, etc.) .   Animals (dōbutsu, moving things) sense motions, bodies, the world, then “my” body, the outside world, I, etc. When we sit still, especially in constant cultivation, the sense of in/out, self/other, etc. disappear and the unity of all manifests, through cessation of conceptions, emotions, and volitions.   Unity of all in time and space (or infinite interrelations of life in dependent origination) manifests and is witnessed, beyond intellectual understanding of the interdependent origination of all (air, water, food, vegetation, the sun, stars, genes, languages, etc.), which is the awakening from delusions. … Continue reading →

Paradigm Shift

    We have problems of power politics, ponzi economics, a pyramid society, and pop or pomp culture. Actually we have a pseudo culture, not really a culture or cultivation that can cease and change karmas.   Organisms orient toward self sustenance and survival, homeostasis and metastasis with their karma-machines and karma-kinetics. Evolution is also devolution – division and diversion from the wholesome whole.   Humans have developed ego infatuation, elation, and estrangement, which become the triple poisons of delusion, craving, and anger, causing samsara, suffering, and strife as hellish beings, hungry ghosts, fighting devils, etc.   The small separated self is like a cancer cell, spreading, smothering, and slaying the whole organism, organization, organic system – individual, social, ecological systems with wars, disasters, destructions, demises, etc.   A wholly wholesome whole requires a paradigm shift from sinfulness (sick separation, like a disruptive cancer or bubble) to holiness (wholesome whole, like a harmonious body or ocean).   Holiness (hagia, ariya: wholeness) is inevitable for and interdependent with health (wholesomeness). The harmonious unity of them is essential for true happiness (whole wholesomeness, wholesome with all) throughout time and space.   Holy harmonious healthy happiness is possible in sitting, stopping karmas, and … Continue reading →
