Good morning! This morning before I came here I turned on TV Japan and found the program Classic Books, featuring Shakespeare’s Hamlet. Its title was “Hamlet’s satori.” It was discussing the soliloquy “To be or not to be.” His satori was not clearly defined, but perhaps “Let it be.” The Vedanta (Veda’s end or ultimate) message is “the unity of ātman and Brahman.” Yājñavalkya reduces all gods to “That.” Prāṇa (breath/life) is That, through which ātman (self, breath) and Brahman (Cosmos, space, life) are identified as selves (breath) that correspond with Cosmos (air space). Thus, sac-cid-ānanda (sat, cit, ānanda: being, consciousness, bliss) is said to be the characteristic of the Self. This has the practical merit of ourselves as Brahman (no Separate Absolute Other: God), hopefully bringing prāṇa to full function of saccidānanda (prāṇa becoming prajñā/ānanda), etc. “Let it be” and “breath/life” are in karma kinetics. Nirvana transcends them in limitless life and light (amita-ābha, -āyus), or limitless life, light, liberation, and love (amita-prāṇa, -prajñā, -priya-dhāman, -prema), beyond limited mundane life in practice (bhāvanā: cultivation = verification). 12/28/14 Note: 1. Bhava (becoming) is karma-kinetics, but bhāvanā (cause to become) is practice in cultivation = verification) stilling karma-kinetics in nirvana and awakening. 2. Priya-dhāman is free-dom, meaning “beloved domain, friendly domain” with all – wholly wholesome way world.

Limitless Light, Liberation, Life, Love
Good morning! Today is the winter solstice, the start of a longer and brighter daytime, but it takes time to warm up the earth and air. People have been celebrating the renewing life of trees, representing truth world, with lights in this season. Today, however, we have more extreme weather with snowstorms, sea surges, forest fires, devastating droughts, horrifying hurricanes, enormous extinctions, and imminent immersing in nuclear catastrophe. This is caused by the human pyramidal system of disintegration and demise of the natural Indra-net system, with the five calamities of delusion, bondage, discrimination, exploitation, and destruction, coming from karma kinetics. The sole solution to this is the Awakened Way of sitting and stilling karmas, seeing and serving the Dharma of Dependent Origination: limitless light, liberation, life, and love in holy truth, beauty, goodness, peace, and prosperity. 12/21/14 Photo: http://www.showclix.com/event/SeasonalSalutationWinterSolstice photo: http://loveyogastudios.com/winter-solstice-celebration Photo: http://funmozar.com

Triple Treasures
Good morning! Yesterday a big telecommunication company serviceman came to fix my very slow Internet connection problem. He said it was a simple mistake to put the net gear too far from the modem. He also fixed the poor function of my computer to get better connections (handshakes) with internet launchers. Our life is like this, with a simple, but salient, mistake of having the net gear (extender, Dharma) too far from the modem of the Awakened One (Buddha). We must fix the poor function of individual computing systems to get better connections (handshakes) with the Internet (Indra-net) launchers. The Buddha (supra-mundane) mode is completely new and good (wholly wholesome), compared to the old and poor one (karma kinesis). The Dharma is the net gear (extender) of unconditioned peace (nirvana) and unsurpassed awakening (bodhi), where all systems are as clear crystals in the Sangha-net. The karma mode is at a dead end, with the global problematique of human global pyramidal system; global, individual, social, and ecological problems; mass extinction caused by the triple poisons. The solution lies in the triple learning, sīla, samādhi, and prajñā, of the triple treasures or refuges. 12/14/14
Gate of Amrita Opened
Good morning! In Zen Communities all over the world, December 8th is celebrated after a week in Rohatsu (Last Month) Sesshin (Touching or Embracing Heart) to commemorate the Buddha (Awakened) Gotama and his awakening in the Dharma of Dependent Origination – that is, that all dharmas (phenomena) are dependently originated on causes and conditions. This means that all phenomena are dependently ceased. Thus, the Buddha could solve the ultimate problems of birth and death in samsara (flowing, constant becoming) suffering. He opened the gate of the ambrosia of immortality (amrita). This was described in the legend of his going out of the four city gates and encountering a sick person, an old person, a dead person, and a person striving in steadfastness. He renounced his royal household life to become a mendicant striver at the age of 29. After six years of hard striving with fasting, etc., he learned that mortification was not conducive to awakening, and he accepted some gruel from a young girl, regaining the strength to sit in solid meditation. He determined never to leave his seat unless he attained unsurpassed awakening (bodhi) in unconditioned peace (nirvana). Deeply immersed in his seated samadhi (concentration), stilling karma conditioning and staying in nirvana (no wind of karmas blowing us up and down), he achieved those things as the day was dawning: a complete release from defilements, starting with the triple poisons of thirst, anger, and delusion. This was the epoch-making achievement for all living beings to be able to still karmas and see the Dharma of all dharmas, becoming and living the awakened life in the Awakened Way. This has been transmitted face-to-face and heart-to-heart down to us through our ancestors. Though he said that there is neither Zen Sect nor Soto School, but only one Awakened Way, Dogen, regarded as the founder of the Soto School in Japan, left us the Universal Recommendation for Right Zazen. This is not a simple manual of Zazen, but his instructions and cautions for the Right Way of it, as in his Zazen-shin (Zazen Lancet), wherein he quotes Nangaku’s comments on polishing a potsherd to make a mirror, cautioning his striving student, Daijaku. The essential message is: “Learn the right form (usually mistranslated as “Never … Continue reading
