Dharma Dwelling

Good morning!

In front of us we can see a great gorgeous amaryllis, blooming in beauty, peace, and truth.

We can also see, with our minds’ eyes, the disaster in Japan taking place. The enormous danger of a nuclear disaster, possibly affecting the whole world, is unfolding.

The eye (I) cannot see itself. How can it see itself? How can we see ourselves to understand and actualize truth, peace, and beauty?

If the eye can see all and find the truth there, and if it finds itself in that truth, then it can see and settle into itself. It is like a bubble seeing the whole ocean, and finding that it is just part and parcel of the ocean.

The other way is that the eye can forget itself; the eye – a bubble – is already the ocean itself. Such is the flower in truth, beauty, and peace. So, too, is the tree in truth.

Thus, two islands (self and dharma: form/norm) can become one. Realizing this, we can stop human disasters from magnifying and multiplying natural disasters.

We must not only see truth, but we must become truth itself. Zazen (sitting and stopping karma) is seeing all dharmas and becoming the dharma itself.
