Good evening!
We start the equinox sesshin now. The equinox is called higan, the other shore (:彼岸), nirvana, equanimity, the last state of the four meditations. The original word for equanimity is upekhâ, “throwing away” all karmas, especially the three poisons (attachment, aversion and delusion), supra-mundane. When we sit still and serene, we naturally stop physical, verbal, and mental karmas, body and mind falling away.
Sesshin means “embracing the mind” (摂心) or “touching the mind” (接心). In devoted sitting, we can embrace, touch, and purify our minds and the Buddha mind, nirvana, equanimity, beyond inside and out, subject and object, the pure truth world. Then, we are in one holy still serene dharma world, beyond coming and going, birth and death. Thus, we can settle in unconditioned peace and unsurpassed awakening.
