The days and the nights in the jungle were fascinating. We listened to the songs of
the birds, the thundering noise of the howling monkeys and the splashing of the
water when a caiman was disappearing into the darkness of the lake. We walked
muddy paths through dense vegetation and were gliding through narrow passages
of wet lands with a canoe. All the time, silence was our most important companion.
We discovered miracles of life.
A grasshopper ready to jump
A little lizard crawling from leaf to leaf
A tiny green frog, frightened of the bright light
A spider waiting patiently for the prey
Piranhas, Electric Eels and Caiman live in the black water of Pilchicocha lake. The
black color of the water is caused by dead leaves and branches decomposing in the
lake.
Swimming is only recommended until 4:30 pm. At this time, these creatures come
closer to the surface in order to hunt.
